Explore the Traditions and Modern World of Ceramic Artist Takuo Nakamura
Takuo Nakamura’s artworks feature the technique of painting on inlayed white clay, which he interprets in his own distinctive way. His pieces are held in renowned art museums overseas, including the Art Institute of Chicago and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. On this special occasion, participants will have the exclusive opportunity to visit Nakamura’s home atelier, a place frequented by art collectors and representatives from art museums overseas but typically not open to the general public. Despite its central location in Kanazawa, his atelier is enveloped in a green garden ambiance. During the visit, participants will have the opportunity to embrace the distinctive aesthetic sense of Kanazawa while listening to Nakamura’s thoughts and emotions, which he pours into his artworks.
陶芸家 中村卓夫の伝統とモダンの世界を訪ねる
琳派の手法を独自に解釈した象嵌色絵が特徴の中村卓夫氏の作品は、シカゴ美術館（アメリカ）、メトロポリタン美術館（ニューヨーク）をはじめ、海外の著名な美術館に収蔵されています。そうした海外のコレクターや美術館関係者が頻繁に訪れる通常非公開の自宅兼アトリエを特別に訪問します。金沢の中心部にありながら緑あふれる庭の空気をとりこんだアトリエで、中村氏の作品に込める思いを聞きながら金沢の美意識にふれる時間をお楽しみ頂きます。
Artist Profile
Born and currently residing in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Nakamura received his pottery training under the guidance of his father, Baizan Nakamura the Second. In 1984, he traveled to Italy to train under Aldo Rontini.
His water jug earned a place in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2001 and was acquired by the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, in 2002. In 2004, Nakamura collaborated with the renowned English porcelain brand Wedgwood, creating the remarkable “Japonesque” series as part of the brand’s art collection.
He also presented his work at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial in 2006.
In 2019, Nakamura played a significant role as a member of the craft architecture team in a tearoom design competition organized by the Museum of Asian Art in Berlin. Their exceptional “Fluctuations of Tearoom” was honored as the best design in the competition.

石川県金沢市生まれ、同市在住。父の二代・中村梅山のもとで作陶。1984年、イタリアに渡り、アルド・ロンティーニに師事。2001年、水指がニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館の永久所蔵品に、2002年、金沢21世紀美術館が作品を買上。2004年、英国ウェッジウッド社とのコラボレーションによる「ジャパネスクシリーズ」を制作。2004年にWEDGWOOD アートコレクション「ジャパネスク」シリーズ製作。2006年には「大地の芸術祭越後妻有アートトリエンナーレ2006」に出品。2019年、ベルリン国立アジア美術館の茶室設計コンペに工芸建築メンバーの一員として設計に参画。《ゆらぎの茶室》が最優秀案に選定される。
