Step into the World of Ceramic Artist Yoca Muta’s Transcendental Techniques
Yoca Muta is a highly skilled Kutani ware artist renowned for her exceptional hand-building pottery technique. Her pieces are a mesmerizing fusion of colors, skillfully crafted to create an illusion akin to three-dimensional paintings or hand-painted ukiyo-e, earning tremendous admiration from collectors worldwide.
Participants will visit Muta’s brand new studio in Nomi City, which is conveniently located near Kanazawa. During the visit, participants will witness the process of overglaze enamel painting as she demonstrates her transcendental techniques and see her exquisite artworks up close. Moreover, they will have the privilege of hearing Muta’s personal insights into art and craft.
陶芸家 牟田陽日の超絶技巧の世界を訪ねる
手びねりで作った磁器に、まるで立体絵画、肉筆浮世絵のような手法で九谷焼を制作する牟田陽日氏の作品は、海外のコレクターからも絶大な支持を受けています。金沢市近郊の能美市に構えた新しい工房を訪ね、超絶技巧の色絵の制作風景や作品鑑賞とともに、自身の工芸やアートへの思いをお聞きします。
Artist Profile
Born in 1981 in Shibuya, Tokyo, Muta graduated from Goldsmiths School of Fine Arts, University of London, in 2008 and Ishikawa Prefectural Kutaniyaki Technical Institute in 2012. Muta now owns her studio/home in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture. She creates a wide variety of artistic pieces, from everyday tableware and teaware to exquisite artwork, with a special emphasis on the techniques of overglaze enamel painting on porcelain. In her exploration of nature’s essence in the present day, Muta skillfully reconstructs elements from animals and plants, mythical creatures, and classical designs on porcelain using the enchanting medium of overglaze enamels.
Her goal is to create pieces that facilitate mutual communication between Japan’s aesthetics, crafts, and art.

1981年東京都渋谷区生まれ。2008年ロンドン、ゴールドスミスカレッジ、ファインアート科卒業。2012年石川県立九谷焼技術研修所卒業。現在、石川県能美市にて工房兼住居を構える。陶磁器に彩色を施す色絵の技法を主軸に、日常的な食器、茶器などの美術工芸品からアートワークまで多岐に渡り制作。現代の自然に対する意識の在りようをテーマに、動植物、神獣、古典図案等を再構成し色絵磁器に起こしている。日本の美感、工芸、アートの間を相互に交信するような作品制作を目標とする。
